The fire season declaration was made by ODF.  While Ashland has achieved many goals over the last few years to prepare for wildfire including new Firewise Communities and work accomplished in the watershed, there is much more to be completed, Ashland Fire & Rescue declared in a news release. “We will never be able to mitigate everything,” says Division Chief Chris Chambers. “Choosing to live in and next to this beautiful forested landscape means we will always be at risk. Managing our risk to the extent possible is our collective responsibility and we’re making headway each year with the community’s participation, but there’s still a long way to go.” Fire season begins with a drought declaration already in place, and this year has the potential to be a serious fire season. Ashland Fire & Rescue is reminding everyone to prevent fires at home and away. There is still time to prepare your home for the event of wildfire. For information about making your home Firewise, see www.ashlandfirewise.org. As fire danger increases as vegetation dries out through the summer, prevention efforts will include more fire restrictions. The most current restrictions are posted at www.ashland.or.us/fireseason, or call Ashland Fire & Rescue at 482-2770. The following restrictions continued and/or went into effect beginning Friday: · Outdoor debris burning is prohibited. Barbecues and fire rings in Lithia Park and raised outdoor wood-burning appliances that meet city requirements are permitted at this time, but will be prohibited during high and extreme fire danger. · Fireworks and sky lanterns are prohibited at all times in the city. · Weed Abatement is required to be completed by Monday, June 15. More information is available by calling the wildfire hotline at 552-2490, which provides information on fires currently burning in Ashland and the surrounding area, and by tuning in to emergency broadcast radio at 1700 AM, which provides information on current emergencies affecting Ashland.   By Local report DailyTidings.com By Local report Posted Jun. 7, 2015 at 4:51 PM » Comment or view comments   Reader Reaction »  STAY INFORMED   Email NewsLetter   Sign Up Today   Sign up for our newsletter and have the top headlines from your community delivered right to your inbox.
