Simpson pitcher Paris Hallums tossed a four-hit shutout in the opener, and Melissa Silveira scored on an error in the bottom of the seventh to give the Redhawks the walk-off victory in the nightcap. In the first game, SOU starter Sydney White held Simpson to one earned run on six hits but two costly errors paved the way for the home team. The Redhawks scored the only run they would need in the second when Jessica Dager scored on Amanda Laughlin’s infield single. SOU designated hitter Taylor Martinez was 1-for-2 with a walk to pace the Raiders. Hallums finished with 12 strikeouts and three walks. In the second game, SOU claimed a 2-0 lead in the second on a sacrifice fly by Jazmin Ruvalcaba and a run-scoring single by Kelsey Randall. Simpson got one run back in the bottom of the inning and tied the game on Courtney Thomas’ RBI single in the third. In the seventh, Silveira poked a two-out single and scored when the Raiders committed two errors on Marisa Marmolejo’s grounder to the right side of the infield. SOU pitcher Kayla Spini held Simpson to one earned run in 6 2/3 innings with zero strikeouts and three walks. The Raiders continue their road swing today against William Jessup and Holy Names. College Track and Field At Nampa Idaho, Southern Oregon sprinters Julius Shellmire and Matt East qualified for the finals in both the 60-meter dash and the 200 in the first day of Boise State’s Jacksons/New Balance Indoor Invitational on Friday at the Idaho Center. Shellmire had the top collegiate time of 6.96 seconds in the 60, while East clocked in at 6.98, the fifth best qualifying mark. Also for SOU, Zac Hannan qualified for the 60 final in 7.03. SOU’s Hayden Saparto placed seventh of 13 in the long jump after clearing 20 feet, 2 ¼ inches. Boys Basketball At Eugene, Stenley Graham led Ashland with seven points but Churchill ambushed the Grizzlies 60-40 in Midwestern League action Friday at Churchill High School. Walker Shibley, Jeremiah Hasskamp and Malik Pippa scored six points apiece for the Grizzlies (7-10, 3-4 MWL). Churchill (14-5, 7-0) remained all alone atop the Midwestern League with five league games to go. Girls Basketball Mya Elder-Hammond scored a team-high six points but Churchill dominated the Midwestern League game 46-18 at Mountain Avenue Gym. Alex Crane added five points for the Grizzlies (3-15, 1-6 MWL), who trailed 13-4 at halftime against Churchill (10-9, 3-4). CHURCHILL (46): Moriguchi 0, I. Smith 3, Huey 4, Williams 6, K.
