No one is to be blamed, cursed or make responsible for it. As rightly said by a very wise, simple Being: "What you sow, so shall you reap. ” Absolutely, there is no place for an iota of doubt. Why we are struggling to get these happy, contented, peaceful and joyful moments in our everyday lives? Everyone strives for it, but hardly any of us get it, or even has any glimpse of it! Let us go deep within us, if we want some direction, into our inner mess, solely created by our ignorance of true direction, which no GPS can solve. The number-one culprit is our lukewarm effort and absolutely wrong direction. If our effort is genuine and direction is correct, then there is no way to miss it. As our sensory organs are hypnotizing and dragging us in the “seen” scenario, which is our outer world only, so Real Life is missed, which flows freely in this very present blinking moment. What an irony: We are the reservoir of this very peaceful life that we have missed for millennium of lifetimes. It is like a particular type of male deer in the Himalayas of India known as Kasturi-Deer, who meets its own death in search of a very sensual scent all over the forest, banging its head with tree trunks, rocks and everything coming in the way, but does not know that the scent is coming out from its own umbilicus, belly button! Nature has put this very exotic scent to attract the female deer but, due to ignorance, it becomes male-deer’s demise. In a similar way we humans are searching this peaceful life in wrong direction, in the outside world, in money, power, position, fame and name and, it turns out, that in spite of our continuous mad rush, the distance between us and our pursuit of peaceful happiness or Inner Peace remains the same, always like a mirage, and one reaches our pursuit's unwanted finale, popularly known as distressful death. How can we change this so called tragic drama of disease, distress and death? Just now, I heard that my spiritually advanced elder brother left the body in India. Is it a coincidence? Not truthfully. But it is, if we are in mind — otherwise, everything happens at its destiny ultimately. Such a huge unimaginable existence is run, as it should, without anyone or any known entity or a ruler, but by higher intelligence, which is like a gravitational force, or love! This is commonly known as God, which is pure consciousness/truth/joy, like a Holy Trinity. In Eastern culture, that Trinity is also known as Sat, Chit, Anand — or together it is called SatChitAnand, or Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh/Shiva. When one recognizes oneself, as it is in its totality, then peace follows like a shadow. Ultimate inner or outer peace never shows up, unless one has experienced “self” in all colors and multitude of manifestations and found that one and only “one” pervades all around in the cosmos! Some pointers may help to experience that very evident, but still hidden, “one” from most of us. It only requires a little change of focus or direction with total awareness. We don’t have to go on a long pilgrimage/journey, as it is within the searcher only, so turn in the focus of search towards your innermost shrine, rather than searching all over the globe outside, in the name of any religious or holy dreaming. The seat of real religion is within oneself. If we go elsewhere, then we will come back empty handed with frustration. One has to come out of the clutches of all outer wanderings, rituals and paths — as well as gurus! Dr. Gokul Gokani has lived in Ashland since 1999.
