Talent planner post remains open The search for a new city planner continues in Talent. Interviews were conducted in late June for a new planning director, but the top candidate "didn't work out due to salary expectations," Talent City Administrator Betty Wheeler said. "The majority of applicants have degrees in urban planning, but they don't have any practical experience. Many of them are not from Oregon. That's not an absolute ... but I do want them to have a planning background." In the interim, the city is contracting with the Rogue Valley Council of Governments for planning assistance. RVCOG planner Dick Converse will work with Wheeler to cover planning duties until a new director can be hired. "Because there is so much development occurring in Talent at this time, it's crucial we pick the right person who has experience in a variety of areas," Talent Mayor Marion Telerski said. Former Planner Kevin Cronin's resignation was effective June 27. The city recently wrapped up its search for a new police chief, hiring Gold Beach police chief Robert M. Rector earlier this month. Rector's first day will by July 21.
