Jessica Clements explains the meaning of 'Callicolpia':   "Callicolpia is a word that was created by joining Greek and Latin root words. It was first coined by AJ. E. Schmidt in 1976 as a term for the 'condition of having beautiful breasts.' It comes right after the word 'callimorphous' which means being beautifully shaped. We found the word in a book on linguistic history. The fusion of the two root words and the aesthetic of the word in its entirety appealed to us more so than the definition itself. I love the boldness and ingenuity that Schmidt employed by creating a new word using different linguistic roots and he essentially created his own words with their own meanings. In a way that is what I think we are striving for with our designs. Literally, we are making one-piece garments which are a fusion of two already existing garments (tops and bottoms) and at the same time we strive to design clothing that is beautiful, creative, fun and novel." » Social News Two ambitious fashionistas from Talent are into designing fetching one-piece garments that let a girl go anywhere — a club, the beach, a date — looking smart and sexy, while ditching the bulky purse so you can slide the cell phone and credit card into one sleek pocket. Both 28, Jessica Clements and Anastacia LeVasseur, proprietors of the daring new Callicolpia Designs, launched their business two years ago, deciding to eschew the burdensome old bricks-and-mortar model and sell their wares exclusively online, while using all-USA materials and help. As you will see in stunning shots at their facebook.com/callicolpia and Callicolpia.com, their threads — modeled by them — are can’t-take-your-eyes-off-it stuff, many leggy with chic hoodies and baring of shoulder curves. “We like the one-piece because we’re minimalists at heart,” says LeVasseur. “One-piece is clothes-on-the-go. It feels comfortable, like nothing is going to come off me.” “We’ve found our niche,” adds Clements. “We looked in the closet and wanted something we could put on that has pockets and where we could be on the go.” “Most of them have pockets, so you can carry the essentials — phone, credit card, ID and chapstick — and get rid of the big, clunky purse,” says LeVasseur. “It’s really neat how versatile it is. You can go out all night in it.” Jumpsuits and hoodies are on the fashion wave this season, but the two women have chosen that basic template because it’s practical and enduring, as well as attractive. They model two favorites: the Crescent Moon, which has a neck halter, side zipper, bare shoulders and low waist-band with tapered pants, designed to fool the eye and appear as a two-piece, and the Switch Hitter, made of a micro suede, velour-like cloth with sleeves, zip front, shorts and big hood.  The women are considering raising money for their startup by going on gofundme.com or applying for a state grant for budding businesswomen. A valuable mentor along the way has been fashion designer Joe Dunbar. In an internship they learned pattern-making and improved their sewing skills, they say.  Their motto is “bring it back home,” which, they say, means do it in America and resist going to China for finished goods — as many have told them they must. “We want the tag to say ‘Made in the USA,'” says LeVasseur. Clements is from Chicago, arriving here four years ago. She likes to walk her dog and write short fiction. LeVasseur came from Washington state a decade ago. A sometime model, and former Maui resident, she is studying graphic design at Rogue Community College and starting a read of the books of Carlos Castaneda. Featured in “The Audacia Profiles: Celebrating Women Business Owners of the Rogue Valley,” Lauren Dahn wrote, “I had a few moments to just sit, listen and watch them work. They moved around the room, gliding past and handing things to each other. They moved like one little unit, finishing each others thoughts and anticipating each others needs.
