LEARNING ScienceWorks DIY Biology Day coming up Saturday Comment By Local report DailyTidings.com By Local report Posted Aug. 7, 2016 at 4:08 PM By Local report Posted Aug. 7, 2016 at 4:08 PM » Social News All summer long, ScienceWorks Hands-on Museum has been exploring the science of Do it Yourself (DIY) Biology with playful experiences that introduce visitors to the tools and techniques of tinkering with biology. ScienceWorks host a full-day, in-depth look at the fascinating world of DIY Biology from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13. The day will feature activities and experiments that will spark imaginations and build confidence with the emerging fields of bioengineering, synthetic biology and agriculture. Activities include dissecting owl pellets and plants, fermenting foods, extracting plant DNA and more. ScienceWorks says it will empower visitors to tinker with the building blocks of life. The DIY Biology activities were inspired by the national Building with Biology program supported by the National Science Foundation and developed by the Museum of Science (Boston), the Science Museum of Minnesota and others. ScienceWorks is one of more than 150 museums from across the country participating in the program this summer. DIY Biology activities are free with museum admission, $8 for children ages 2 to 12 and seniors 65 and older, and $10 for teens and adults. ScienceWorks members and children under 2 are free.
