Smullin Foundation has donated an additional $50,000 to support scholarships at the Oregon Institute of Technology. The contribution augments the OIT-endowed William B. Smullin Presidential Scholarship Fund. Ryan joins ranks of AmeriCorps Bianca Ryan, former Ashland High School graduate, is devoting 10 months to the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps. Stevens on board USS Nassau Marine Corps Lance Cpl. David D. Stevens, son of Karen and John Stevens of Talent, is currently on a six- month deployment while assigned to the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit based in Camp Lejeune, N.C. YMCA hosting holiday sleepover The Ashland Family YMCA will host a New Year's Eve Sleepover Party for local youths. SOU aids students on financial front Using tuition remission and several other funding sources, the Southern Oregon University Financial Aid Office will be able to help more than 600 students cover the $143,000 reduction to the Oregon Opportunity Grant program at SOU. Public Safety ASHLAND POLICE & FIRE Community Notes · The 2002 Environmental Film Series continues with a showing of "Escape from Affluenza" at 7 p.m. Friday at the Unitarian Center, 87 Fourth St., Ashland. The first series profiled people and organizations that are reducing consumption and waste, choosing work that reflects their values and working to live in better balance with the environment. Organizers ask all who attend to bring a new, unwrapped toy which will be donated to Dunn House to help make the holiday season a little brighter for children who are caught up in the tragedy of domestic violence.
