This is outrageous. Contrary to what the bleeding hearts would have you believe mustangs - feral horses - are not part of our natural environment. They are a destructive, invasive species that was brought here by humans (the root cause of most environmental problems). They are no different than feral cats, opossums, and Japanese beetles. Should we create taxpayer-sponsored sanctuaries for these animals as well? I personally have five former feral cats in my care. I would love to receive government money for taking care of them! In Australia the feral horse problem is so bad that the animals are hunted with helicopters. Can you imagine the great wailing and gnashing of teeth that would arise should we do the same here? People, wake up! The "American Mustang" is not a magical, romantic creature. The only thing it truly represents is Man's shameful irresponsibility. It's bad enough working people have to support the human welfare cases in this country (Where are the spay/neuter programs for those folks?) If the "Wild Horse Annies" of the world want to preserve these useless animals, then let them pay for it out of their own pockets. Stop bleeding the rest of the American taxpayers with these ridiculous "pet" projects! Carol Putnam (horse owner) Central Point Navickas has lost credibility As someone who once voted for Eric Navickas for Ashland City Council, I am greatly disappointed in his choice of new causes. Will anyone ever take him seriously as an activist again - aside from Ryan and his other nude cohorts? It does little good to preach only to the choir. Activists need to make a real effort to appeal intellectually to those on the fence and, if at all possible, to those on the opposing side. Navickas has pretty much ruled that out now. To undermine a truly important stand like the health of the watershed with such juvenile antics would seem to be an act of sheer ego, and a miscalculation of stupendous proportions. It is a shame that the watershed's most ardent supporter has decided to reduce himself to a public laughing stock. Sadly I gave him credit for more sense than that.
