Gold Hill resident Robert David Bixler, 33, was arrested at about 10 a.m. Sunday following a reported theft in the 600 block of Terrace Street in Ashland two hours prior. The resident of the home reported multiple boxes of rifle and pistol ammunition, a power drill and some cash — in all, more than $800 worth of property — stolen from the garage. A police officer driving through a Medford Walmart parking lot found Bixler asleep in a parked car with the reported stolen property inside, along with heroin, according to Medford police Detective Sgt. Brent Mak. Jackson County Jail records show Bixler was booked into the jail on a heroin possession charge and numerous warrants charging him with failure to appear to face past theft, identity theft and drug-related charges. He was released from jail later that day, but Mak says Medford police is on the hunt for him again and hopes he'll stay behind bars this time. "We have additional probable cause to arrest him," Mak said. A 19-count Jackson County Circuit Court indictment shows Bixler has been charged with aggravated theft, aggravated identity theft, first- and second-degree theft, identity theft, criminal mischief and unlawful entry into a motor vehicle. One of the aggravated theft charges stems from a January incident where urology medical equipment was stolen from a Jeep parked in a Medford hotel parking lot after the soft top was slashed, the indictment says. Bixler was arrested the following day, then released from jail. Days later, he was suspected of stealing someone's ID to commit identity theft at multiple gas stations, banks and other businesses, the indictment says. Bixler is also suspected of multiple vehicle break-ins in December and January, stealing electronics and other property he later sold to multiple pawn shops and second-hand stores, court documents say. Anyone with information on Bixler's whereabouts is asked to contact Medford police at 541-770-4784. Reach reporter Ryan Pfeil at 541-776-4468 or [email protected].
