--> --> Talent discusses levy, civic center Ashland Daily Tidings TALENT - Two meetings this week tackle parks upkeep and the proposal to build a civic center in Talent. A meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Talent Community Hall, 206 East Main St., will allow Talent Parks Commission members to focus on an update on the city's park levy on the November ballot. The levy would add 36 cents per $1,000 of assessed value to homes in Talent to generate a dedicated funding source for parks maintenance citywide. Also on the agenda Wednesday, parks commissioners will: · discuss a public works progress report; · discuss the parks master plan; · discuss wetlands at the Spruce Landing 30-lot subdivision near Rapp Road and Talent Avenue; · and, take up various pieces of unfinished business, including a vision for parks, bicycling in Talent, a dog park committee report, and a discussion on fundraising activities. On Thursday, the Talent Civic Center Planning Committee gathers at 6 p.m. in the community hall to hold its second public meeting. The civic center proposal includes adding new buildings in the downtown area near Talent City Hall. Several statewide organizations, including Rural Development Initiatives Inc. and the Oregon Downtown Development Association, are working with the city to help shape a vision for the project. Both agencies have pledged to help with early costs associated with mapping out the center plan, while Talent residents down the road will likely be asked to approve a bond measure to cover the majority of construction costs.
