Police seek Umpqua Bank robber Umpqua Bank security camera footage shows a man robbing the bank just after noon Thursday. Ashland Police are seeking the public's help in identifying him. Thursday Mar 30, 2017 at 7:12 PM Mar 30, 2017 at 7:46 PM By Julie Akins For the Tidings The Ashland Police Department is seeking the public's help in finding the person or persons who robbed Umpqua Bank on Walker Avenue at Ashland Street minutes after noon Thursday. Based on a photograph posted on the police department’s Facebook page, the alleged suspect is a white male with shoulder length brown hair, wearing large tinted glasses and a light-colored cowboy hat, blue plaid shirt and dark jacket. He appears to have a beard and mustache and to be a of a slight build. Police are not disclosing the amount of cash he may have taken nor any other details of the robbery except for the picture captured on a bank surveillance camera. “This man robbed the Umpqua Bank on Walker and Ashland Street in Ashland. We can’t go into too much detail right now, but we could definitely use your help locating him. If you know him, or his whereabouts, please call the APD,” was the message posted on the police department Facebook page. Ashland police also said, “There is no ongoing threat to the community and the investigation is ongoing.” It's the second bank robbery this month in Ashland. On March 16, the Wells Fargo branch in downtown Ashland was robbed and a suspect was arrested roughly six hours after the robbery at the Cedarwood Inn in Ashland and charged with the crime. David Dean Johnson, 41, was taken into custody without incident. Court documents indicated he allegedly slipped the teller a note and fled with $2,770 in cash. Before that, the last bank robbery in Ashland was in June 2012, according to Ashland police. Johnson was released from the Jackson County Jail by noon the following day due to overcrowding. His appearance does not match that of the surveillance camera footage of the Umpqua bank robber. Calls to the Ashland Police Department and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department on Thursday afternoon were not immediately returned.
