--> --> Man convicted of firing at officer EUGENE (AP) - A Lane County judge rejected a 28-year-old man's insanity defense and convicted him of firing at a police officer during a bank robbery in February. Jason Glen Campbell faces up to 40 years in prison on the attempted aggravated murder, kidnapping and robbery convictions. Circuit Judge Maurice Merten will decide whether the terms will be served consecutively or back-to-back. A witness told police that Campbell said he wanted police to kill him during the Feb. 26 robbery. Holding a hostage and a shotgun, Campbell walked out of the South Umpqua Bank. He fired the shotgun at Eugene police officer Ray Brown, shattering a bus shelter near Brown. The officer fired back, striking Campbell in the abdomen. The hostage was unhurt. After investigating the incident, the district attorney concluded the officer was justified in shooting Campbell. Email your...
