Kent Bush: Christmas is about Jesus Comment By Kent Bush More Content Now DailyTidings.com By Kent Bush More Content Now Posted Dec. 24, 2014 @ 8:01 am By Kent Bush More Content Now Posted Dec. 24, 2014 @ 8:01 am » Social News You can’t go anywhere without hearing “Merry Christmas” or seeing festive decorations. Everyone is celebrating Christmas. Presents, carols and holiday treats are everywhere. But people really aren’t celebrating Christmas. They’re celebrating Easter. Think about it, if Easter morning hadn’t come about 33 years after that first Christmas morning, Jesus would have just been another Jewish boy born in a barn. On that silent, holy night, the ultimate plumb line between heaven and hell was born to fulfill the plan that was in place before the earth was spoken into motion. Sure, over the centuries, Christmas spirit has become Santa and shopping, decorated trees and wrapped gifts. Christmas specials used to include the story from the second chapter of the Gospel of Luke. Who can forget the Charlie Brown Christmas Special? Now, for an entire month of December, Nickelodeon and the Disney channel will broadcast Christmas specials that talk about elves and reindeer or trees and shopping. But you won’t hear much about Jesus even though He is the only reason anyone anywhere wraps pricey gifts. Christmas isn’t the end of the story. What happened that first Christmas morning is on page one of the Easter story. Several babies were born that night in Bethlehem. But we only celebrate one of them. It isn’t because of mangers and cattle lowing, it is because of the cross that was to come. Don’t get me wrong. I love giving and receiving presents. Christmas music and movies are great. There is nothing wrong with wanting a white Christmas, a Christmas vacation or even a hippopotamus for Christmas. Christmas parades are fun and who doesn’t love kids’ pageants. But so many times we forget why we do all of these things we do and say all of the things we say. It is about Jesus. Christmas is when we celebrate his birth. But without his death and resurrection we wouldn’t celebrate at all.
