Jackson County, Oregon | Credit: Gary Halvorson, Oregon State Archives MEDFORD, Ore. — Medford City Council will increase several fees to boost its income by more than $1.7 million. The increased rates will become effective on January 1, 2025. The decision was approved at its monthly meeting on Thursday by six to one vote. The fee increases will apply to: Business License fees will generate as additional $900,000 to the General Fund. The proposed structure is based on the number of employees and not the city’s current structure of $60 for a home-based business license fee and $100 for a commercial business license fee, regardless of number of employees. Fleet Maintenance Fund will generate an additional $300,000. At present, the fund is spending more than it is receiving in revenue. While the fund remains solvent, the increases are necessary to ensure a healthy fund balance in the future. Public Safety fee increases will generate an additional $254,000 by increasing the unit charge to $0.50. The extra funds will help finance Fire Station 15. Building permit fee increases will generate an additional $250,000. Parks and Recreation fee increases will generate an additional $22,000.
