The nonprofit Pachamama Alliance is sharing an introduction to the research behind a plan to reverse global warming called Project Drawdown from 7 to 9 p.m. today, Jan. 30, at the Bellview Grange, 1050 Tolman Creek Road, Ashland. The researchers behind the worldwide effort to accelerate the knowledge and growth of viable solutions is what they call “the most comprehensive plan ever proposed” and is, they believe, possible to implement right now. Southern Oregon Pachamama Alliance, which is offering the introduction to Project Drawdown, will outline ways to reduce the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Drawdown, the plan’s author Paul Hawkins explains, is that point in time when the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere begins to decline on a year-to-year basis. The project, developed over five years and described in Hawken’s book “Drawdown,” sets out the science and economics behind the top 100 solutions, giving us the basis for engaging in a set of actions to reverse global warming by 2050. Eighty of the 100 solutions modeled in the plan are in use today while 20 others are being tested. A diverse group of researchers from around the world gathered to identify, research and model the most substantive existing solutions to address climate change. They identified a path forward that they think could roll back global warming within 30 years. Nothing new needs to be invented, and the solutions come from a variety of sectors, including education, land use, food production, energy, transportation, building and city planning, and even the materials used in our daily life.
