The free, public festival will feature two programs of roughly 50 minutes in length, with a 15-minute intermission between. The SOU Student Film Festival is a student-run event, organized by the Southern Oregon University Film Club in collaboration with students enrolled in the Department of Communication’s Film Festival Programming & Promotion course, taught by Assistant Professor of Digital Cinema Andrew Gay. The programmed films were all directed by SOU students enrolled as majors in Communication, Emerging Media & Digital Arts, or Theatre Arts, and include live action narrative fiction, documentary and animated work. Program 1 will feature “PG” level, family-friendly works, while Program 2 will include some content not appropriate for younger viewers, including language, violence or sexual content. Doors open at 6 p.m. at 166 E. Main St. The Ashland Elks Lodge will host an after-party and awards ceremony at 8:15 p.m., featuring free refreshments, live music and the announcement of the winning films. Casual dress is welcome, but students encourage attendees to don their best red carpet attire in order to join in the fun.
