Ekwall DailyTidings.com Writer Posted Sep. 5, 2014 @ 2:00 am Posted Sep. 5, 2014 @ 2:00 am » Social News April 17, 1924 - Aug. 31, 2014 Martha M. Ekwall of Brookings, Ore., passed away at her home on Aug. 31, 2014. She was 90 years old. Martha was born April 17, 1924 in Escondido, Calif., to George and Ida (Poe) Wright, and was one of eight children. She went to high school in Yreka, Calif. Martha married Edward A. Ekwall in 1941 in Hilt, Calif., and together they had two children. During World War II, Martha worked in factories building planes in San Diego, Calif. She was a regular Rosie the Riveter. Martha was a member of the Nazarene Church, and attended services at Curry Village Good Samaritan Society in Brookings. She enjoyed gardening and working in her flower beds, and going for walks. She loved taking care of her kids and grandkids. Martha is survived by her son, Steven Ekwall of Talent, Ore.; son, Dennis Dean Ekwall of Brookings; grandchildren, Denette Bruce, Jeff Ekwall, Randy Ekwall, Gina Anderson, Tamee Comstock, Tim Ekwall, Cassie Ekwall, and Eden Ekwall; and 17 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Edward Ekwall, and seven brothers and sisters. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 12, 2014 at Eagle Point National Cemetery, 2763 Riley Rd., Eagle Point, OR 97524. Redwood Memorial Chapel is assisting the family.
