January 02. 2015 6:27PM Ashland schools to implement chickenpox precautions When school resumes after winter break, Ashland schools will exclude non-immunized children whose siblings have identified or suspected cases of chickenpox.  According to a joint letter from the Ashland School District and Jackson County Public Health, 26 cases of the viral illness have been identified in the district since Nov. 17, 2014. In an effort to contain the outbreak, the letter says, non-immunized siblings of confirmed or suspected chickenpox cases will be kept out of school until their possible communicability is over, or until the child can provide proof of immunity. The exclusion will last 21 days from their last possible exposure, to account for the virus' incubation period.  The district says that while non-immunized students who don't have infected family members won't be excluded now, it may take other measures in the future if the outbreak continues.
