Now under construction where the Lithia Way Texaco stood for years, the growler station will offer fill-ups of a different kind: half-gallon jugs of beer, known as "growlers." It's a relatively new trend in this country, but has been around in Europe for centuries. Rather than pick up a six-pack or a half-case at the neighborhood grocery store, you take your refillable jug to your local growler station and have it filled with fresh draught beer right from the keg. It's more affordable, and tastes better, too. Medford boasts several locations where growlers can be filled, including brewpubs. But owner Butch Price says his place won't be a bar. He does plan some indoor and outdoor tables for on-site quaffing, but the emphasis will be on the growler trade. And he's got big plans for that. Price vows he will offer up to 65 different beers, all brewed locally. Whether that's really all the beers in the valley, as Price claims, is hard to say. But it will be as close as anyone has come yet to having every local beer in one location. After all, why should wineries get all the attention? The local brewery industry is making a name for itself, and this is a sustainable approach, which should go over well in Ashland. When you head out to buy groceries with your reusable bag, don't forget the growler.    DailyTidings.com Writer Posted May. 13, 2015 at 12:01 AM » Comment or view comments   Reader Reaction »  STAY INFORMED   Email NewsLetter   Sign Up Today   Sign up for our newsletter and have the top headlines from your community delivered right to your inbox.
