The movie, starring Reese Witherspoon and based on Cheryl Strayed's memoir, "Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail," needs about 200 actors with tattoos, piercings, dreadlocks and other counterculture markings, according to Extras Only, a Northwest casting company. Also needed are Jeeps, cars, trucks and other vehicles older than 1995, according to its website. Extras are paid minimum wage and are guaranteed at least eight hours of pay, plus overtime, the company says. The crew for the movie "Wild" is coming to Ashland for a day of filming at the downtown Plaza, the post office and the Breadboard Restaurant. A small advance crew will arrive on Oct. 17 to do preparatory work for the actual filming on Oct. 22, according to Ashland city staff. During filming on the Plaza, Main Street will be closed to traffic from Granite Street to Pioneer Street downtown. Vehicles will be re-routed to Lithia Way, which will be turned into to a two-way street, city of Ashland Management Analyst Ann Seltzer said. Pedestrians will be allowed downtown, although they may be held back by security personnel for five-minute periods while filming takes place, said city of Ashland Executive Secretary Diana Shiplet. Winburn Way, which winds through Lithia Park, will be closed to vehicles. For the filming, Witherspoon will go into the business Papaya on the Plaza, Seltzer said. Later she will visit the post office on Lithia Way to pick up a package that her character mailed to herself to support her hike. For another scene, Witherspoon will visit the Breadboard Restaurant on Ashland's northwest outskirts, Seltzer said.
