Michael Jon Summers Michael Jon Summers, 60, of Ashland, died Monday, May 5, 2003, at Linda Vista Care Center in Ashland. No service is planned. He was born Oct. 30, 1942, in Linton, Ind., to Raymond and Esther Summers and grew up in Tucson, Ariz. He received a bachelor's degree in education from Arizona State University in 1965 and a master's degree in education from the University of Arizona in 1967. He married Nancy Lee Reiman, who survives. He served in the U.S. Navy for two years. Mr. Summers was a teacher for 33 years, retiring in 1997. He was a member of the State of Oregon Fair Dismissal Appeals Board from 1988 to 1995, and was past president of the Medford Education Association. Mr. Summers enjoyed photography, traveling and running marathons. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Laura Peters, Springfield, Tenn.; a stepdaughter, Summer Braun, Portland; a son, Mark, Portland; a stepson, Ryan Smith, U.S. Army at Fort Sill, Okla.; his mother, Esther Summers, Prescott, Ariz.; two sisters, Sarah Hayden, Prescott, and Sue Graves, Tucson; and seven grandchildren. Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland. Catherine B. Livingston A memorial gathering for Catherine B. Livingston will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the home of Dr. Ruth Bebber. For more information, call Laura Dennison at 301-6182. Miss Livingston, 91, of Ashland and Redlands, Calif., died April 30, 2003, at the home of her longtime friend, Dr. Ruth Bebber. Memorial contributions may be made to the Southern Oregon Humane Society, 2910 Table Rock Road, Medford, OR 97501. She was born in 1911 in Summerland, Calif. She graduated from San Bernardino High School in 1928 and received a bachelor's degree in English from Pomona College in 1932. She earned two master's degrees, one in general education and another in physical education from Claremont Graduate School in 1939. Miss Livingston taught for 39 years in the San Bernardino School District as a physical education instructor. She was head of the physical education department at San Bernardino High School when she retired in 1972. She was considered a master teacher and was responsible for hundreds of student teachers. She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in San Bernardino, Calif. Miss Livingston traveled extensively throughout the world, touring, hiking and backpacking. She enjoyed music, cooking, gardening and photography. Survivors include a sister, Margaret Loomis, Rancho Cordova, Calif. Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland. Marvin L. Taylor The graveside service for Marvin L. Taylor will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Jim Larsen of Ashland Christian Church will officiate. Mr. Taylor, 67, of Talent, died Monday (May 5, 2003) at Ashland Community Hospital. Memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Processing Center, P.O. He was born Feb. 12, 1936, in Plant City, Fla., to Joseph Lee and Mary Ella (Van Atten) Taylor. He attended schools in Plant City and Denver. On July 28, 1956, in Denver, he married Marcia A. Laird, who survives. They lived in Ashland from 1971 to 1985, when they moved to Talent. Mr. Taylor worked as a mill worker in O'Brien and Kerby, and as an auto mechanic in Talent. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1954. Mr. Taylor was a member of NASCAR, the National Rifle Association and the Rogue Valley Men's Bowling Association. He enjoyed racing, fishing and hunting. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Penny Hegdahl, Ashland; two sons, Steven, Ashland, and Leslie, Talent; a sister, Frances Cook, San Jose, Calif.; two brothers, Leonard, Indianola, Iowa, and David, White Lake, Wis.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Taylor. Friends may pay their respects from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory, Ashland.
