Fortunately for the future of Jackson County what was recommended by the County Planning Commission withstood modification despite strong last minute lobbying from those who would hack up Jackson County into thousands of "martini farms." Agriculture is the one Oregon industry that has showed steady increases in revenue of late, and Commissioners Kupillas and Gilmour are to be lauded for their position to attempt to preserve the agricultural and forestry heritage and economy of Jackson County. We need to drastically restrict development in County areas, and we need the Commissioners to push for better infill programs in our cities to hold in sprawl as Jackson County absorbs the growth few still want. We hope the Commissioners will resist any large Urban Growth Boundary expansions by cities in the master planning now underway called "Regional Problem Solving." Afterall, what problems will more sprawl solve?
