This would have been sage advice for the group, led by Mr. Peru, who planned a golf course and housing on the Billings property. Amazingly, Mr. Peru thought valley residents would stand docilely aside and let the company take Bear Creek Greenway land for a far hole. Did he not know of our 25-year effort to obtain funding for this treasure to our parks system? Had he not heard we are celebrating the completion of land acquisition and the final pathway construction? Why should we give up nesting spaces,tree breezes and tranquil settings for a private corporation's short-term financial gain? I applaud the Bear Creek Greenway Committee for denying, unanimously, the application to intrude on our public property. I ask that the Jackson County Commissioners uphold this well-founded decision and respect the work of so many to preserve and protect the creek and riparian areas for all of us to enjoy.
