It’s not. Tip one domino in the Mideast and you tip a thousand. Israel, a blood enemy of Iran’s, vigorously opposes anything that would let Iran mess around with nuclear power in any way, with the suspicion it would advance them toward nuclear weapons, which Israel already has.  Compounding the crisis is the long-standing polarization of power in Washington, with a Republican Congress unable to work harmoniously with President Barack Obama on anything short of pardoning the Thanksgiving turkey.  In recent days, the Republican Congress has stepped over the line that says only the President makes and conducts foreign policy — first by inviting Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu to address Congress, pitching his intransigent strategy on Iran — and then publishing an open letter from 47 Republican senators to Iran suggesting that whatever treaty they might conclude with Obama, it can easily be voided by a Republican Congress or the next President. We asked Ashlanders: “Should Republican senators have sent a letter to Iranian leaders regarding the nuclear negotiations? Should the U.S. and other countries make a deal with Iran to lift embargoes if Iran limits nuclear development?”  Olof Soderback — The Congress doesn’t recognize Obama as the leader of this country. That letter, they should ask for it back and pretend they didn't write it and it was Boehner’s nightmare, from which he hasn't woken up. The American coalition should stop being on Iran’s case. If we are, why not be on Israel’s case too, since they have nuclear weapons. That’s the sacred cow no one talks about and that’s the biggest danger to the Mideast. Is Israel our 51st state? The embargo we have on Iran should apply to Israel also, and to Russia, the United States, France. Will Hershman — Congress undermines the President’s position and it’s going to have very punishing repercussions for our country. It’s a first. It’s never been done before. Whoever heard of a Congress doing this? We’re supposed to be a democracy. We have a popularly elected president who won by a significant majority. I find it outrageous. Congress should respect what the State Department is negotiating. As for Iran, they need a regime change. We're exhausted from war. The most important thing is to prevent Iran from getting the bomb. If you inspect, that’s the ticket. They're the most bellicose people on the planet. These are dangerous people.  Bob Canape — The Congress, the ones who wrote that letter, are people with nothing to lose, doing things that put others at risk. They will never have to go to the front lines and neither will their children. I should get 47 citizens to sign a letter that we support the efforts being made, a treaty along the lines of not developing weapons.  Kathy Garrett Canape — Congress is undermining the President. This has never been done in the history of the United States. I don't know where they get off doing that. I can't believe it’s going on in our Congress. When are they going to start working together for our good? This could lead to war. On Iran, I agree we should make the treaty. My only concern is if we can really inspect, given what went on with Saddam in Iraq. There are lots of questions about it. Whatever will lead to peace, I'm for it. Maybe bring in the UN.
