Oregonians will pay 7 cents a gallon more than most other U.S. states, where prices have dropped by 1 cent. West Coast Gas Costs More in Summer The reason given is that gas prices increase throughout the West Coast when pumps switch to a summer-blend fuel between April and June. The reason is that gasoline evaporates more easily during the warmer months, according to the Environmental protection Agency. The latest increase will see pump prices at an average of $4.50 per gallon, compared with $3.66 per gallon nationally, according to the American Automobile Association (AAA). But the AAA is optimistic that price pump hikes are at an end, ‘barring unforeseen events.’ The public affairs director of the AAA for Oregon/Idaho, Marie Dodds, says the biggest wildcard remains the price of crude oil which accounts for more than 50% of the cost of a gallon of gas. Dodds points out that Middle East and Russia/Ukraine conflicts continue to fuel a volatile oil price market.
