Most people commented that they would rather see the money go toward the library - apples and oranges! The police shack they are considering would require an estimated $20 thousand, the library about $1.6 million. From your sampling of Ashland citizens it is very clear why we are in the position we are in today - nobody has a single rational fiscal clue. concerned - ashland, or - June 18th, 8:13 PM It's not a matter of money, it's a matter of safety, and the more the city is doing to keep our kids safe and drugs away from them, the better. It seems all the bunny huggers in town don't see that, all they think is that no matter what the money or time or whatever is going to it's the wrong things... If it isn't their way it's not the right one... Police substation Heck yeah great idea... Keep our city safe and clean... We don't need another Methford!! It's like the Indian tale of the blind men and the elephant: each of us is picturing it differently. C'mon, ADT---Give us some information! Information, please - Ashland, OR - June 20th, 5:27 PM There's nothing to prevent officers from spending more time downtown when they're not busy with a case, except their own reluctance and laziness. How many times have you seen a patrol unit parked somewhere in the shade, engine running, AC on max, the officer talking on his/her cell phone? Do they need a special building downtown for this? I think not. The new chief could do some delegating (isn't this what he gets paid for?). Officers could easily be more visible downtown. And I have never seen the Ashland police sitting in their cars as you described. How long have you lived here, or do you live here. I have been here 20 years and I have seen just the reverse, of your comments. You clearly have no idea what is going on. The police are not the bad guys.
