--> --> Bike, car collide; cyclist recovering By Sean Wolfe Ashland Daily Tidings An incident that pitted a bicyclist against a Honda Civic has left a local man banged up, sprained, but alive. Ashland Police Department patrol officer Phillip Gray told The Tidings in a telephone interview this morning that Joe Ross, 26, had been heading north on Mountain Avenue, while the driver of a late model Honda Civic, identified by police as Betty Elerath, was driving south. At Mountain Avenue and Prospect, the two collided at an uncontrolled intersection. "They were in the wrong place at the right time," Gray said. According to police, Elerath then transported Ross to his home in Ashland. His mother, dialysis nurse Kathy Resch, then transported Ross to Ashland Community Hospital where he was treated for his injuries, which included a sprained ankle, a sprained wrist, multiple scratches on his back and a "skinless finger." "She (Elerath) drove him home. He was pretty bloody. But besides leaking all over the interior of her car, her car didn't have a mark on it," Resch said. "He was pretty banged up. He had road rash on his back and side, and the finger was probably the worst," Gray said According to Resch, Ross is sore but recovering. "He was lucky. He went right over the top of the car. And he was supposed to start a new job today, so that's not good," Resch said. According to Gray, no citations are being issued and police are considering the case closed. Email your...
