Catherine Emma "Kay" Nollenberger Catherine Emma "Kay" Nollenberger, 92, of Ashland died Tuesday, June 17, 2003 at a foster home in Ashland. A celebration of her life will be held in the fall.Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice. She was born Catherine Emma Best on July 16, 1910, in seattle, Wash. In 1944 she married William Edward Nollenberger, who preceded her in death. She lived in Great Falls, Wyo., Calgary, Alberta, Sewanee, Tenn., Calvert, Texas, Fayetteville, Ark., Santa Ana, Modesto, and Berkeley, Calif. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1979. Mrs. Nollenberger attended Choinard School of Art. She worked as a commercial artist during the Depression. She volunteered with many groups working for mental health, cooperatives, and social justice. Mrs. Nollenberger dedicated her live to working for the peace and human rights movement from its beginning in the 1960s. She enjoyed a good book a good friend, long walks along Siskiyou and drinks at 4 p.m. Survivors include a son, Larry, of Ashland; and adopted son, Ron Blair of Eugene; a brother Charles Monroe Best of New York; and two grandchildren.Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory in Ashland. *** Gaylord S. Vestal Gaylord S. Vestal, 81, of Ashland, died Thursday, June 19, 2003 at Rogue Valley Medical Center, Medford. Arrangements are under the direction of the Litwiller - Simonsen Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Ashland. *** Rachel Teinert Witt A funeral service was held today, June 21, 2003, at the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in La Grange, Texas for Rachel Teinert Witt, 89, of La Grange, who died Thursday, June 19, 2003 at the Care Inn nursing home in La Grange. Mrs. Witt was born April 18, 1914 in Rabb's Prairie, Texas to Paul Teinert and Pauline (Lehmann) Teinert. She married Carl John Witt on Feb. 7, 1937 in Warda, Texas. Mrs. Witt was a member of the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, La Grange. Mrs. Witt is survived by two daughters, Pauline Ruder of La Grange, and Lana Witt of Ashland, Ore.; three sisters, Johanna Pietsch of La Grange, Alma Froelich of La Grange, and Louise Wagner of Springdale, Ark.; one brother, Leon Teinert of La Grange; one granddaughter, one grandson, and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Pauline Teinert; her brother, Paul Teinert II; an infant sister; and her husband, Carl John Witt. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church Preschool, in La Grange. Arrangements are under the direction of the Sergeant Memorial Funeral Home, La Grange.
