The burglar’s entry set off a loud alarm and also signaled the SOS security company, which sent police to the scene, says Lonny Flora, recreation manager for Ashland Parks & Recreation. Nothing else was apparently taken — and there was little of value in the L-shaped trailer structure, where people rent skates and buy candy, he adds. The munchie-minded thief apparently dug into the treats right away, leaving a trail of candy wrappers as he made his escape up the hill behind the rink, says Ashland Deputy Police Chief Warren Hensman. The candy caper, possibly “the smallest burglary we’ve ever dealt with,” says Flora, was reported at 5:14 a.m. Sunday. The candy supply was restocked for skating by Monday morning.
