With music and lyrics by William Finn and book by Rachel Sheinkin, the tweens spell their way through a series of mind-boggling words hoping to never hear the soul-crushing "ding" of the bell. Shows are set for 7 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays, April 30 through May 2 and May 7-9, in the school's Mountain Avenue Theatre, 201 S. Mountain Ave., Ashland. Matinees will be at 2 p.m. Sundays, May 3 and 10. Tickets cost $10 for the April 30 preview. General seating costs $15, $10 for seniors and students, and tickets can be purchased at Paddington Station, Tree House Books and Music Coop. Reserved seating costs $20 and can be purchased online at www.showtix4u.com or by calling 866-967-8167. 'Como el Viento: Flamenco en Vivo' Feel the fiery rhythms of authentic flamenco when dancer Savannah Fuentes of Seattle presents her newest show, "Como el Viento: Flamenco en Vivo," at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 30, at the Talent Community Center, 208 E. Main St., Talent. Fuentes will be joined by flamenco singer Jesus Montoya and guitarist Bobby de Sofia. The show is part of a tour of six Western states. Tickets cost $22, $10 for students, and can be purchased online at brownpapertickets.com or by emailing [email protected]. Kids 14 and younger get in free. Foreign Language Film Festival Eight films in five languages will be screened Friday through Sunday, May 1-3, in the basement arena of Stevenson Union on the Southern Oregon University campus, 1250 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland. Look for "Whisper of the Heart" (Japanese) at 4 p.m. and "Children of a Lesser God" (American Sign Language) at 7 p.m. Friday; "Die Welle" (German) will be screened at 1 p.m., "Goals for Girls" (Argentinian) at 4 p.m. and "Les Choristes" (French) at 7 p.m. Saturday; and "Entre le Murs" (French) at 10 a.m., "Casi Divas" (Mexican) at 1 p.m., and "Wholetrain" (German) at 4 p.m. Sunday. 'Sacred & Profane: Macbeth & the Rubaiyat' Ashland Contemporary Theatre will present performance artist Jesai Jayhmes' one-man show — a convergence of "Macbeth" and "The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam" — at 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday, May 2, and 8 p.m. Sunday, May 3, at the Ashland Community Center, 59 Winburn Way, Ashland. The show blends theater styles to allow the audience to feel through the psyches of Khayyam and Macbeth. Tickets cost $15 in advance and can be purchased at Paddington Station in Ashland, Grocery Outlet in Medford or online. Tickets will cost $20 at the door. Hip-Hop Poetry Open Mic at OSF Ashland poet T-Poe Varnado will host a hip-hop poetry open mic from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, May 4, at the Black Swan Theatre on the Oregon Shakespeare Festival campus, 15 S. Pioneer St., Ashland. T-Poe, a Vietnam veteran, also hosts Rogue Poetry Slam on the third Tuesday of every month at Northwest Pizza and Pasta Co . The OSF open mic is open to anyone who wishes to share original poetry, music, dance or theater in front of a live audience. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free.
