--> --> Marion law agenices face separate suits SALEM (AP) - Marion County law enforcement agencies are facing separate lawsuits accusing them of making a false arrest and breaking into the wrong apartment on a drug raid. Salem attorney Rodolfo Camacho filed both lawsuits this week in Marion County Circuit Court. In one suit, Juana Mendoza-De La Rosa claims that both the Keizer police and the Marion County parole and probation office arrested her despite proof they had the wrong woman. Mendoza-De La Rosa was stopped Oct. 4, 2000, by a Keizer police officer who informed her there was an arrest warrant for a Juana Mendoza. She was released after presenting her driver's license, which showed a different date of birth. The next day, she was confronted in an apartment complex by probation officers looking for the same woman, Camacho said. Mendoza-De La Rosa tried to tell them her date of birth and Social Security number but no identification was taken. The warrant for the wanted woman had a different address, driver's license number and date of birth, but she still was jailed, Camacho said. It wasn't until she went to court that her name was cleared, he said. In the other lawsuit, the Marion County sheriff's office was accused of serving a search warrant at the wrong apartment on June 23, 2000. The officers kicked open the door of Apartment 27, where the residents had lived for more than five years, Camacho said. The target of their search for drugs was a man who had lived in Apartment 28 but moved out three months before. The residents of No. 27 provided identification but the search continued for nearly two hours. No drugs were found, but papers were taken and several items of personal property were damaged or destroyed, Camacho said. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of Juan De La Torre Barajas, Maria Guadalupe De La Torre, Miguel De La Torre, Esther Lopez Cruz and Juan Jose De La Torre. Email your...
