Looking for something to read on the airplane flight to your summer vacation destination? We’ve rounded up some of the summer’s hottest book releases. ALREADY OUT: “Pines”: If you’re already getting into Fox’s new mystery series “Wayward Pines,” maybe it’s time you check out the book series the show is based on. Blake Crouch’s twisty series follows a Secret Service agent who arrives in the gorgeous, bucolic town of Wayward Pines, Idaho, to recover two agents who went missing there. The three-book series was recently re-released in paperback. (Thomas & Mercer, $8.97.) “Your Band Sucks”: Musician Jon Fine penned this insider’s look at the indie rock wave of the 1980s, reminiscing about a time pre-Internet, pre-blog buzz, when bands like Sonic Youth, Black Flag and Mission of Burma developed underground followings based on word of mouth, zines and endless band tours. (Viking, $27.95.) OUT JUNE 2: “Finders Keepers”: Stephen King returns with “Finders Keepers,” the second title in his trilogy of books about Detective Bill Hodges. Picking up where “Mr. Mercedes” left off, book two centers around the murder of a reclusive writer, his missing notebooks and the release of his killer from prison after 35 years. (Simon & Schuster, $30.) “In the Unlikely Event”: Beloved YA author Judy Blume (“Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret”) delivers a story for adults this summer. “In the Unlikely Event” weaves a tale of three generations of a New Jersey family, set against actual events Blume experienced in the early 1950s. (Knopf, $27.95.) “Saint Mazie”: Jami Attenberg’s tale of a woman whose exciting Jazz Age-era life changes as the Great Depression hits was inspired by the life of a woman who was profiled in Joseph Mitchell's classic “Up in the Old Hotel.” (Grand Central Publishing, $25.) “The Sunlit Night”: Writer Rebecca Dinerstein’s debut novel, set in a beautiful but barren landscape in the Far North, has drawn praise from Jonathan Safran Foer, who calls “The Sunlit Night” "lyrical as a poem, psychologically rich as a thriller." (Bloomsbury USA, $26.) “The Complete Eightball”: Fans of independent comics will no doubt want to check out this super-deluxe 25th anniversary collection of all 18 “Eightball” comics by Daniel Clowes (“Ghost World,” “Ice Haven”). (Fantagraphics, $119.99.) “Modern Romance: An Investigation”: Comedian Aziz Ansari is probably best known for his role on the recently wrapped NBC comedy “Parks and Recreation,” but now he’s adding “sociologist” to his resume. (No, really!) For the book, Ansari teamed up with NYU sociologist Eric Klinenberg and designed a research project, including hundreds of interviews and focus groups conducted in cities all over the world. (Penguin Press, $28.95) “The Festival of Insignificance”: Acclaimed Czech-born author Milan Kundera (“The Unbearable Lightness of Being”) will release his latest novel in English later this summer. “The Festival of Insignificance” is Kundera’s first new novel since 2000, and it has already topped charts in Italy, Spain and France. (Harper, $23.) “Go Set a Watchman”: News that reclusive writer Harper Lee had decided to release her second novel, “Go Set a Watchman,” set off a few different emotions among fans earlier this summer. People seemed thrilled that Lee, who released “To Kill a Mockingbird” in 1960 to great acclaim, was releasing another book, but others worried the elderly author was being taken advantage of. In a statement, however, Lee said she was “humbled and amazed” the book will be released this summer. (Harper, $27.99.) “Barbarian Days”: William Finnegan’s memoir about his globe-trotting adventures as a surfer and reporter is packed with adventure. Live vicariously through the author’s travels, even if you don’t end up making it too far from home this summer yourself. (Penguin Press, $27.95.) “The Marriage of Opposites”: “The Dovekeepers” author Alice Hoffman delivers a forbidden love story set on the tropical island of St. Thomas about the woman who gave birth to Impressionist painter Camille Pissarro. (Simon & Schuster, $27.95.)
