--> --> Open council position offers an opportunity We have a golden opportunity now to affect Ashland's present trend toward looking bigger and better. We can offset the unresponsive governing and patronizing power demonstrated most recently by the sneaky destruction of the library trees. With David Fine leaving his position on the council there is a vacancy. This will be an appointed position, one that requires no funds to pay for an expensive campaign. That type of campaign is out of reach of many of Ashland's most ardent supporters. Most certainly Chris Hearn will be seen as a reasonable appointee because of his very close run off with Cate Hartzel. Opinions may have shifted since the election because of these continuing issues. Issues that point out that Ashland is slipping through the fingers of many of the people who have loved this town for so long - locals who made sacrifices to live here when the economy was terrible because they loved the community so much. Ashland remained wonderful because of you. This council position presents a great opportunity to offset this current trend towards making money off of Ashland and behind-the-scenes power and control. This is an opportunity to seize. We can have an appointment of someone that represents another perspective on our council. We have plenty of one type of representation. Let's get some more balance. This is the time. I am suggesting calls to the city. Insist this appointment be opened up to the public. People who have the time, the skill and the love of Ashland as a community but not the money to run an expensive, traditional campaign will come forward. Ellae Elinwood Ashland Email your...
