Siskiyou changes moving forward By AMBER FOSSEN Ashland Daily Tidings Reconstruction work on Siskiyou Boulevard continues despite delays. "It's slowing down but it's still moving forward," said Karl Johnson, Ashland Public Works assistant engineer. Efforts to reconstruct Siskiyou Boulevard were stalled when city-hired contractor LTM, Inc. ran into scheduling conflicts. According to Johnson, the delay was weather related. "There was some scheduling conflicts with some other LTM projects," Johnson said. "However, it wouldn't have over-lapped if we didn't have an earlier delay with all the rain in the spring." The entire $3.7 million reconstruction project - which will feature new traffic signals, crosswalk timers instead of flashing hands, and bumpouts that will make pedestrians more visible to traffic - is slated to be complete by mid-November. LTM has a final construction deadline of Dec. 15. However, LTM is working on a revised schedule which will be announced next week, according to city officials. "I'd say 95 percent of the sidewalk between Mountain Avenue and Walker Street is complete," Johnson said. "There's very little that's left to do." This is not the project's first delay. In April, reconstruction efforts were juggled due to a delay in the delivery of traffic signals, which postponed the planned spring transformation of the Beach Street intersection until summer when it was completed. LTM worked around the missing poles where possible. Jim Olson, Ashland city surveyor and project manager, said the project is complete on the north side of Siskiyou Blvd. and more than halfway on the south side. "The signal poles are on-hand and the bases have been poured," Olson said. "They're also making good progress on the curbs."
