In the midst of his boredom he makes a pact with the devil in exchange for his immortal soul he gets 24 years to do whatever he wills on earth — to be his own version of God. Totally unbridled, his pettiness knows no bounds (that’s why the second act is, at times, tedious because Faustus himself is rather tedious).
