--> --> RCC seeks bond levy Ashland Daily Tidings A bond levy forwarded to voters by Rogue Community College officials would raise Jackson County property taxes by 25 cents per $1,000 of assessed value. The $40 million bond measure, approved unanimously Tuesday by the RCC board of directors, will appear on the May 21 primary ballot. If approved, the levy would be used to develop two campuses in Jackson County: a $22 million technical training facility in northern Jackson County and an $18 million consolidation and expansion of RCC's Medford campus. The levy is expected to accommodate growing enrollment, which is projected to reach nearly 30,000 by 2011, up from just under 20,000 full- and part-time students today. RCC, with its main campus in Grants Pass, expects nearly 70 percent of its future growth to occur in Jackson County. Property taxes in Jackson County would rise by about $38 per year for a $150,000 home if the measure is approved. Property taxes in Josephine County would not be affected by the measure. "This is going to be a huge benefit for Jackson County and all of Southern Oregon," said RCC President Rick Levine. "This investment in new training and educational facilities will yield dividends for the region's economy for years to come." In another step to thwart declining state funding, RCC is mulling options to increase operating funds, including hikes in tuition and registration fees.
