--> --> Oil companies flat out tell lies Two weeks ago we paid $1.93 per gallon of gasoline in San Francisco. Traveling on, we paid $1.47 in Phoenix, Ariz. On our return route, through Las Vegas and Reno, we paid $1.72. Ashland and Medford prices hover around $1.47 per gallon. Attendants servicing our automobiles in fair weather and foul obviously do not increase the price of gasoline in our fair state, although it is fair to state that lack of attendants does not lessen the cost. So when the oil companies once more attempt to have us vote to do away with attendants, crying that attendants are a major reason gasoline costs to the consumer are so high, the oil companies straight out lie. Note that in the past few days through the nation, prices jumped 13 cents a gallon as of April 20, while oil prices remained steady. Remember, prices haven't risen in our section of Oregon. Note also the five billion or so dollars Exxon announced as profit. What the heck, let's have one more note. We, the American people, have been suckered into these prices. Kinda like Californians being forced to pay unholy energy costs because of deregulation, which is what our legislators in Salem are toying with now. President Bush and Vice President Cheney are oil merchants dealing from a stacked deck. The possibility doesn't seem to have entered their political consciences that these positions demand they take responsibility far beyond their methods of earning a living. Sidney E.
