Video report by Deon Jenkins| For the Tidings Current Comments: Determine whether we can go it alone, w/o Jackson Co., try to pass a fairly small levy, and then run the library locally with that small levy, donations, and volunteers. Let us have the sort of library we are willing to support, as a community. We don't need federal money, and we don't need County money. Likewise, services are free to local people and perhaps operate with a modest fee to others. The library was always open and there were only 500 students in the high school There were less people here and much less money. I hear something about timber money but Klamath County seems to keep their library open. The timber money surely should have affected them of all places. Where did the county go wrong. There seems to be a lot of free people with time on their hands around town. Its not a difficult job. I took library science in school and my mother was also a librian. I have spent a lot of time there. I would rather give away my time than have to pay even higher taxes. I think if these choices were available to people they would agree. dora eastman - ashland, oregon - September 4th, 12:13 PM I've been pointing this out for a while now: since when does "the library" have to be a $70 million showpiece (whose cathedral ceilings make it extremely expensive/inefficient to heat/cool)? People ostensibly visit the library for books and other media; neither the books nor I are impressed with an expensive building. At the current run-rate, $70M would fund the entire county library system for about 15 years; instead, we have a really nice building sitting on prime real estate... vacant.
