Ashland is truly an English Renaissance Study area in the Western U.S. Our brasses are masterpieces of engraving from the 12th to the 16th centuries giving historians and scholars the most accurate visual knowledge of armour, clergy vestments, and ladies attire for a period stretching nearly 500 years. Students of all ages will be enriched by viewing the new collection of rubbings at the SOU library and by doing their own rubbings with the Tudor Guild volunteers in the Patton Garden summer afternoons from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. The Brass Rubbing Focus Area is also available to share our rubbing secrets by appointment, call the Tudor Guild Shop for details. Tudor Guild's Web site www.tudorguild.org has a picture and historical information about each brass in our collection. Thanks Tidings for bring more brass rubbing news to our cultural Valley. Annette Lewis Brass Rubbing Focus Area Leader Tudor Guild Puzzled over provocation As a new resident to Ashland I was puzzled over a letter appearing in the Tidings attacking the Ashland Peace House. I am not aware of the truth, if any, of Mr. Marty Barickman's charges, but they appear to be both irrational and spiteful. The charges range from encouraging "vandalism and rioting," provoking "stressed-out cops into using excessive force," turning Ashland" into a hot bed of insurgency." And then suggests that the Peace House was responsible for "cementing the Kiwanis flag holders on Veterans Day," adding that he has turned over a list of the perpetrators to the police. Why is Mr Barickman so angry?
