(Correction: This date has been updated.) “Understanding the Internet and Safety Tips” is open to all members of the community, but is specifically designed for senior members of the community who would like a better understanding of using the Internet and how to guard against Internet-based scams and computer viruses. Crime prevention specialist Ron Kohl will cover such topics as: What is "spam"; how does the Internet work; how do I know if I am on a secure site; what is a firewall and how does it work; email safety tips; Internet surfing tips; safety while shopping online; and more useful information. The class is intended to help attendees understand what a computer is and they can make intelligent decisions for prevention of cyber crime. The two sessions of the class start at 1 and 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at The Grove, 1195 East Main St., across the parking lot from the Ashland Police Department. Attendees are asked to call and reserve a spot. Call the Ashland Police at 541-482-5211.
