CINEMA 'Carol' screenings benefit AIFF Comment By Local report DailyTidings.com By Local report Posted Jan. 7, 2016 at 7:33 PM By Local report Posted Jan. 7, 2016 at 7:33 PM » Social News Showings of "Carol" on its opening night Friday, Jan. 8, at the Varsity Theatre will benefit the Ashland Independent Film Festival, AIFF has announced. Benefit screening times are 6:10 and 9 p.m. "Carol," directed by Todd Haynes, is an adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's novel "The Price of Salt." The movie, starring Cate Blanchet and Rooney Mara in the leading roles, follows two women from very different backgrounds who find themselves in an unexpected love affair in 1950s New York. The movie won the New York Film Critics Circle awards for Best Picture and Best Screenplay, and has been nominated for multiple Academy, Golden Globe, Critics’ Choice and Screen Actors Guild awards. Coming Attractions Theatres, owner of the Varsity, is donating proceeds from the Friday evening showings. Tickets, $9, are available at the Varsity Theatre box office and online. AIFF Members get $1 off regularly priced tickets when purchased at the Varsity box office. The R-rated movie runs for 118 minutes.
