We're speaking of the first legal, recreational marijuana consumption that is likely already occurring among some enthusiasts. To those who have been using marijuana all along: Enjoy your first legal day, but don't go overboard. A few reminders, if you haven't been paying close attention to the details: Keep it private. As of today, it's legal for adults to carry up to an ounce and keep up to 8 ounces at home. But consuming it in public is still illegal. If you're smoking a joint as you walk down the sidewalk, you're inviting a citation. Inside your house is fine; on your porch is likely fine as well. Inside a car is probably OK if you're a  passenger. If you're driving, you can be cited with driving under the influence if an officer determines you are impaired. Don't share it with minors. Giving marijuana to anyone under 21 is the same under the law as furnishing alcohol. Don't buy it — at least not yet. Recreational outlets won't open until at least the fall of 2016, but the Legislature on Tuesday passed a bill that will allow recreational sales by medical marijuana dispensaries starting this fall. In the meantime, pot may be given to you, or by you to others, but no money may change hands. Enjoy the new freedom if you so choose, but remember to use common sense.           DailyTidings.com Writer Posted Jul. 1, 2015 @ 12:01 am » Comment or view comments   /* $( document ).ready(function() { // Jquery mobile is trying to style the button and leaving a blank gry button on top of a white button $("#viafouracoms .vf-comment-controls li.vf-right").html(' Submit '); });*/ »  STAY INFORMED   Email NewsLetter   Sign Up Today   Sign up for our newsletter and have the top headlines from your community delivered right to your inbox. calendar Connect with DailyTidings.com Facebook Twitter RSS Back to top Reader Services Reader Services home Subscriptions Subscriber controls Contact us Submissions Photos Events Letters to the editor Corrections Alerts Email alerts RSS feeds Text Alerts Advertise Media Kit Home Products and services Ad rates Advertising contacts Propel Marketing Mail Tribune Daily Tidings The Nickel Shop Our Valley Blogs Mobile Site Stay Informed   Email newsletter   Sign Up Today   Sign up for our newsletter and have the top headlines from your community delivered right to your inbox.
