Main St. Two lots on the 100 block of Suncrest Road that are wholly within city limits are expected to be annexed into Talent. At its June 22 meeting, the city council referred the issue to the planning commission for review and recommendation. The commissioners will hold a public hearing about a proposed 10-lot subdivision on the 400 block of Alpine Way. The 3.19-acre lot was annexed into the city in 2004 and includes an existing house, which will be incorporated into the design of the subdivision. The continuation of the public hearing on the application for a 10.61-acre PUD between Highway 99 and Suncrest Road will wrap up the commission’s action items. The development includes 65 housing units, almost 21,000 square feet of commercial space and six live/work units. The planning commission took issue with the density and the mixed-use nature of the project at its Aug. 11 meeting, and two of the four commissioners present said they saw no possibility of approving the development. Greenpeace ordered to pay ROSEBURG — Greenpeace has been ordered to compensate a timber company following a protest last summer in the Umpqua National Forest in which demonstrators blocked a logging operation.
