The nominal time to say good-night to Daylight Saving and return to Standard Time is 2 a.m. Sunday, making for a "Groundhog Day"-style repeat of the 1 to 2 a.m. time period — and that's just how Oregon Liquor Control Commission sees it, meaning businesses selling liquor that normally have to stop at 2 a.m. can do so for an extra hour (or, for those allowed to go to 2:30 a.m., an extra half-hour). It's also a good time to check batteries in potentially life-saving smoke detectors, emergency responders say. That's especially important heading in to the time of year when temperatures are cooler and nights are longer, making use of fireplaces and candles more common and the possibility of an accidental fire more likely.
