"She's deserving," 13th-year SOU head coach Paul Elliott said. "I think she's hands-down the best player in the league. That's a no brainer. What surprises me is how casual she is about it." Matchett, a two-time All-American, was also the Player of the Year in 2001 and the Freshman of the Year in 2000 for the Cascade Conference. Along with Matchett, senior middle blocker Lindsey Aitchison and sophomore setter Jamie McCreary won all-star accolades following Southern Oregon's 3-2 win over Albertson in the championship match of the Cascade Conference tournament. Kim Pitney, a freshman middle blocker from Western Baptist, was chosen as the Freshman of the Year. The Libero Award went to Western Baptist junior Jamie Ruda and Albertson's third-year head coach Liz Mendiola was the Coach of the Year. Eleven players were named to the all-conference team and nine received honorable mentions. 2003 CC all-star team Lindsey Aitchison - senior, middle blocker, Southern Oregon Amanda Basnez - senior , setter, Albertson Brittany Bonnett - junior , outside hitter, Albertson Krista Ekeberg - sophomore, middle blocker, Concordia Liz Howe - senior, outside hitter, Western Baptist Liza Langmade - sophomore, middle blocker, Northwest Amanda Larsen - junior, outside hitter, Concordia Kristina Matchett - senior , outside hitter, Southern Oregon Jamie McCreary - sophomore, setter Southern Oregon Cristina Merrill - senior, outside hitter, Oregon Tech Kendra Mitchell - junior , middle blocker, Western Baptist Stephanie Short - senior , outside hitter Evergreen Honorable Mention: Kristen Bailey (Sr., MB, Albertson); Jessie Buck (So., S, Northwest); Joel'ene Bogle (Sr., OH, Warner Pacific); Kelly Holleran (Jr., OH, Concordia); Kaki McLean (Jr., OH, Eastern Oregon); Marcie Mitzner (So., OH, Oregon Tech); Rebekah Palton (Sr., S, Warner Pacific); Hanna Plunk (Jr., S, Evergreen); Laura Weigandt (Sr., OH, Cascade).
