Main St. The Ashland concert will serve as the final send-off concert for the Siskiyou Violins, who were accepted to participate in the 2005 New York Youth Orchestra Festival at Carnegie Hall this June. Siskiyou Violins, a 38-member ensemble, consists of students from the private studio of Faina Podolnaya of Ashland. Members are drawn from various communities in Southern Oregon, with some members traveling up to two hours to work with Podolnaya and the ensemble. The ensemble has given performances in communities throughout southern Oregon, including a joint concert with the visiting Rimsky-Korsakov Quartet. Podolnaya not only maintains a private studio, she also serves as associate conductor of the Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon and teaches violin at Southern Oregon University. Before emigrating to the U.S. in 1999, Podolnaya taught at a prestigious music school in Kazakhstan, the Highest Music College for Gifted Children of Almaty State Conservatory. Piano accompaniment will be by Galina Kistanova, also a former instructor at the Highest Music College for Gifted Children of Almaty State Conservatory in Kazakhstan. The concert is free to the public. Tax-deductible donations will be accepted at the door and used to help defray the costs of participation in the New York Youth Orchestra Festival at Carnegie Hall.
