--> --> Wyden to head two subcommittees WASHINGTON (AP) - Sen. Ron Wyden will take over the helm at two subcommittees, following the switch of the Senate to Democratic control Wednesday. The Oregon Democrat will head up the Energy and Natural Resources subcommittee on forests and public land management previously chaired by Sen. Larry Craig, R-Idaho. The job will give Wyden increased authority over timber issues often important to the Northwest. In addition, Wyden will take over the Commerce science, technology and space subcommittee. Vermont Sen. Jim Jeffords announced last month he was leaving the Republican Party to become an independent. With his move, the Democrats gained the majority in the Senate for the first time since losing control in 1994. With the power shift, Sen. Gordon Smith, R-Ore., lost the top job at three subcommittees, including the water and power subcommittee. Email your...
