SEEN ON SCENE Grizzlies row to raise money for regatta By Joe Zavala Ashland Daily Tidings DailyTidings.com By Joe Zavala Ashland Daily Tidings Posted Oct. 21, 2014 @ 6:19 pm By Joe Zavala Ashland Daily Tidings Posted Oct. 21, 2014 @ 6:19 pm » Social News The Ashland High rowing club figured out a way to raise funds for an upcoming regatta while also training for it Tuesday on the Plaza.  All 18 members of the club team took part in an ergothon fundraiser between 4:30 and 8:30 p.m., working the rowing machines in 30-minute shifts in an effort to raise enough money to compete in the Head of the American Regatta Saturday at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center in Gold River, Calif.  Each rower secured dollar-per-mile donations before the rowing began. The team’s goal was to row a combined 500,000 miles. The hope was that that number, plus any on-site donations, would net enough money to cover the team’s cost of competing in the Head of the American, which stands as the team’s lone race this fall.  In previous years, the Grizzlies have held car wash fundraisers, but a valley-wide drought forced them to scrap those plans this year. The ergothon idea came up during a recent brainstorming session.  Ashland leaves for the regatta on Friday morning.
