Raider forward honored by NAIA Southern Oregon University women's basketball all-star forward Kara Magee-Arick Tuesday earned NAIA Division II Player of the Week for her efforts in three key Cascade Conference wins that helped the Raiders rise to No. 21 in the top-25 poll. The 6-2 Portland native, who also garnered conference player-of-the-week honors for the first time in her four-year SOU career, averaged 21.3 points, 9.3 rebounds and 2.6 blocks in last week's victories over three chief league rivals: Western Baptist (88-76), Albertson (92-66) and Eastern Oregon (67-60). The Lincoln High graduate went 12-for-17 from the floor, compiled a career-high 33 points and broke an 11-year-old school record with nine 3-point makes against Albertson. She also recorded her second and third double-doubles of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds against Western Baptist, and 16 points and 12 caroms in the EOU game. With 12 treys in the three contests, Magee-Arick moved into the conference season lead in the category (45), and into fourth place on Southern's all-time list (101). In addition, she now ranks fourth in the loop in scoring (15.8) and 13th in rebounding (6.4). Magee-Arick, who joins teammate Sara Marks and former All-American Melissa Bogh as the only Raider players ever to receive the national award, has helped the previously unranked Raiders (11-7) to the best start in conference history (8-0), including six straight overall entering Friday night's home tilt against Northwest College.
