Our society is built on finding solutions to problems: the economy, health, social friction, weather changes, food supply — the list goes on and on. We as a society and its government will reason our way to manage these challenges … but the more we design systems, programs, structures with our intellect, the more complicated and burdensome it becomes. The more we have to figure out. The same is true for relationships. But as our society and daily living become more and more complex, so do our mental and emotional challenges. At times we reach a point in our lives when, after working with a challenge for a long time trying to figure it out, we simply cannot find a solution. “When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be. ... If nothing is done then all will be well” (Lao Tzu). The concept of surrender is not a new one. The idea of doing less and accomplishing more is a common theme in many business management books and journals. In Christianity, many times it is heard “Turn it over to Jesus.” In New Thought the mantra is “Let go and let God.” Our intellect and intelligence is a gift when used wisely here in the physical world. However, when various tools or teachers fail or we reach an impasse in “trying to figure everything out," then we surrender. Maybe we should start to surrender first? Surrendering to God, the Divine, Source Energy, Infinite Intelligence, implies that we stop doing what we are doing. Doing nothing (or at least very little) is the letting go and surrendering to a great Divine Intelligence. This is when the seemingly magic or miracles happen. A solution will be found in an infinite number of ways: the answer is given by inspiration or intuition, the conditions change and sometimes by forming a new paradigm, priorities change or shift, and on and on. It does not matter how, nor should we be concerned on how … we simply need to let go of the attachment to the outcome and let the natural creative process do the work. This is not to say that the intellect or our intelligence is not to be used, not at all. It is, in fact a wonderful blessing, a tool to deal with the physical and psychic laws. But we tend to make the intellect our God. When we surrender to Infinite Intelligence we can be one with the physical and the non-physical. Events, circumstances, emotions, the psyche, are all best in surrendering to the One. One of the best tools I have seen to invite the Divine Intelligence into our lives is when we make list of things to do or situations to deal with. On one side (Let’s say the left side) of our “To Do” list, itemize all the things to deal with today. On the other side (the right side), list all the things we are turning over to Infinite Intelligence: Things I will handle: 1., 2., 3. Things God will handle: 1., 2., 3. For the things under “I will handle,” we can then use our gift of intelligence and figure out how and when we will accomplish these. On the “Things God will handle” side itemize all we wish to turn over to the Divine. Make sure to release them and give thanks they are being handled. DO NOT try to figure out how God is going to handle it. That is not our job and not up to us. Just release and give thanks. This is surrendering. "No matter what kind of intellect you have, it is never enough to grasp the nature of existence" (unknown). What you will find after working with this a while is that you will start to turn more and more over to God to handle because these occurred in an intelligent and timely manner. The more you surrender, the more your inner confidence grows and you become more peaceful. Worry becomes a thing of the past. No more trying to figure things out or stress about deadlines, or anxiety of hurry and or delay. You now can be at peace and relax in the knowingness that Source will handle it all. Truly, as all the Masters have told us, the less you do the more will be done.
